This gas maintenance and installation course requires no previous industry experience or related trade qualification. The course is suitable for you if you are considering a career change, up-skilling, or have recently been made redundant and want to get the skills needed to return to work. You will focus on developing the hand skills necessary for plumbing installation work and progress to carrying out gas safety tests on gas appliances. Theory sessions will focus on gas safety legislation and the underpinning knowledge required to operate safely as an engineer.

The course includes the following core units: understanding health and safety in gas utilisation, understanding scientific principles in gas utilisation, understanding combustion and properties of gas, understanding buildings, services and structures, and understanding gas safety.

Entry Requirements

You will need English and Maths skills at Level 2. On application, if you do not have evidence of your English and Maths levels you will be given an online assessment. You will be offered an interview with the tutor to discuss the course and take a vocational assessment if required. Adult learners’ prior skills and experience (e.g. evidence of work experience) will be taken into account.

How is the course taught?

You will be taught by industry professionals in our fully equipped gas and plumbing workshops. Theory sessions will be delivered using a wide range of teaching methods and techniques.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed at the end of each unit by tests recognised by industry and provided by City & Guilds.
